Workshop on the Economics of Fog, Edge and Cloud Computing

The First International IEEE Workshop on the Economics of Fog, Edge and Cloud Computing (ECOFEC 2019)

in conjunction with IEEE INFOCOM 2019
April 29 – May 2, 2019, Paris, France

CALL FOR PAPERS        COMMITTEE        SUBMISSIONS        PROGRAM

The rise of edge and fog computing is poised to create a new ecosystem of applications that utilize computing, storage, and networking services from combinations of fog, edge, and cloud providers. Leveraging this mix of services allows applications to improve their performance, e.g., by enabling real-time interactivity, as well as to potentially reduce their costs. Yet the commercial success of such applications will depend not only on successful deployment of edge and fog computing technology, but also on a sound understanding of the economics and pricing questions raised by the resulting interactions between applications and content providers, infrastructure owners, and fog/edge/cloud providers. Such questions, which can include pricing and market design, performance tradeoffs, and regulatory implications, among others, are only beginning to be investigated. This workshop provides a venue for researchers, industry practitioners, and regulators to discuss the nascent research area of economics in fog, edge, and cloud computing and to determine the most compelling unanswered questions that will shape this field in years to come.
