Workshop on Ultra-high Broadband Terahertz Communication for 5G and Beyond networks

Workshop on Ultra-high Broadband Terahertz Communication for 5G and Beyond networks (UBTCN’19)

in conjunction with IEEE INFOCOM 2019
April 29 – May 2, 2019, Paris, France

CALL FOR PAPERS        COMMITTEE        SUBMISSIONS        PROGRAM

Communication over Terahertz (THz) bands is emerging as a new technology to fulfill the requirements of beyond 5G networks. These 5G future networks particularly require ultra-high bandwidth, negligible latency and seamless communication for a large number of devices and applications. Moreover, the significantly reduced antenna size requirements enable novel applications at the nanoscale. The current research on THz communication is more towards the devices, materials, and antenna design. However, to achieve the data rate and latency goals of 5G and beyond networks, more research is required to develop efficient and novel physical, MAC and network layer techniques including Massive MIMO, beamforming, and switching, medium access and sharing, scheduling and synchronization, routing and resource allocation. The traditional techniques of communication cannot be directly applicable to THz bands as they do not consider the unique characteristics of Terahertz band like reflection, path loss, and absorption over short distance propagation.

The UBTCN workshop aims to unite the key enabling players to achieve the goals for future 5G and beyond networks. The main objectives are; to have an overview of the current research in this area; to explore and discuss key challenges; to highlight new research directions for future networks and to share views on the high frequency bands; and to define the feasibility of these bands as a good candidate to be supported by funding bodies for ultrahigh speed networks action plans and standardization.
